Fifties Swing Dress – Butterick 6049

It all started when I saw the little boa jacket on sale. I just had to buy it but what does someone wear with a jacket like that? I looked through my stash and found the perfect fabric. I wanted to make a swingy circle skirt type dress but the pattern called for 2.5 yards and I only had 1.5 yards of the chosen fabric. To complicate matters, it had a strange border design running down the selvage. What to do with that? So out came the Butterick pattern with the separate midriff to use the border. I shortened the skirt by 3 inches and had to patch some pieces together to squeeze out the dress. Made it without a scrap to spare!
